In January 2022, Mack, Asa and Karen met at Mack’s house known as The Farmhouse
in Goochland County, Virginia, to dream and plan a community. The Pandemic was
winding down, people were hungry for connection, and the time was right to begin.
The dream was to create a community of kindred spirits, a safe space where souls can
gather to explore, learn and grow. Staying true to Mack’s Celtic roots, the name Anam
Cara Collective was chosen as the name for our community.
“In the Celtic tradition, there is a beautiful understanding of love and friendship –
Anam Cara or soul-love. ‘Anam’ is the Gaelic word for soul and ‘Cara’ is the word
for friend.. So ‘Anam Cara’ in the Celtic world was the ‘Soul Friend’, someone you
could share your innermost self, your mind and your heart with. This friendship
was an act of recognition and belonging.” John O’Donohue
Following this Celtic tradition of “Soul Friend”, our community was born.
